Music streaming service and application Spotify is to release its very first playlist-inspired merchandise collection.
Fans all over the world collect different merchandise to show their love and support for their favourite artists—waterproof stickers in NZ, United States, and other countries, posters, album covers, band shirts, guitar picks, and more. This year, Spotify collaborated with To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), a non-profit organization that aims to help people struggling with mental illness. They are to release a set of merchandise inspired by their EDM playlist “mint.” It has garnered more than five million listeners on the platform, which is a cause of celebration, and enough proof that it has gathered enough support to merit its own merchandise.
Collaboration with To Write Love On Her Arms
To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), apart from collaborating with Spotify, also has its own online store. For this particular merchandise collection, they are selling shirts, tank tops, rain jackets, and fanny packs. The shirts and tank tops will feature the playlist’s album art with “5M” on the centre. On the other hand, the rain jackets and fanny packs will sport the word “mint.” They can be bought separately or as a bundle and proceeds will go to efforts in helping individuals dealing with mental health issues. Their collection features these four items, but for those wanting more from their favourite artists, artists often create and sell shirts, posters, decals, and waterproof stickers in NZ, Canada, US, and other parts of the world.
Mental Health and Its Role In the Music Industry
Spotify further explains that they want to collaborate with TWLOHA to help people dealing with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. This announcement was recently made after Avicii’s suicide shook the world. His death highlighted the hardships that artists have to endure to be successful in the industry.
A First of its Kind
This is the first time that Spotify would release a merchandise collection solely based on a playlist. The merchandise collection was initially available through the company’s Fans First, an email program that connects artists to their fans and offers different perks such as pre-sale tickets, special events, and even exclusive merch. Now, it is available to everyone who wants to help TWLOHA with their cause and donate. All items are now available for pre-order, and shipping would start in two weeks.
