Five Every Day Uses Of Neoprene

Neoprene is a solid rubber created in the 1930s. It is a strong rubber material and comes under the family of synthetic rubber. It was created by DuPont to meet the high demand for rubber.

Neoprene is highly flexible and durable. It is a very heat resistant material that can withstand both high and low temperatures. It is soft and provides insulation from electricity as it does not allow the build-up of static.  Other features of Neoprene are it is stain-resistant, water-resistant and scratch-resistant. Now that we have discussed some interesting Neoprene facts, now let us know about the uses of Neoprene.

Uses of Neoprene

  1. It is used in the manufacturing of combat equipment. For example, face masks and gloves. Neoprene is flexible and soft. It retains its flexibility and can withstand high temperatures and hence it is preferred choice for combat equipment.
  2. As PC rubber or Neoprene can absorb heat, it is used for making oven mitts and heat pads.
  3. Landfills often have high temperatures because some part of the fill is on fire due to the methane released by rotting waste. Neoprene material can withstand extreme weather conditions and hence used in the production of landfill liners.
  4. Divers need wet suits that keep them warm underwater and at the same time do not obstruct movement of body parts. One of the common uses of Neoprene is in the designing of wet and dry suits for divers. These suits are often lined with spandex or fleece to increase the comfort and improve aesthetics.
  5. There is a danger of build-up of static energy in laptops, mobiles and other electronic equipment. Since neoprene does not allow the build-up of this static, it is used as outer casing for laptops, cameras, mobile phones and other electronic items. Moreover, it is also used to design sleeves and gloves for these equipment.

Apart from the above uses, neoprene is also used to manufacture safety equipment, sports equipment, medical equipment, hydroponic gardening systems etc. One of the important Neoprene facts is that it is used in most of the items we use every day and has now become a favorite fabric for high-end designers.

Neoprene is a strong rubber material that has a variety of applications. It is available in a range of colours and textures.
